Atari Centipede is a classic arcade shooter game first released by Atari in 1980. The original game was designed by Dona Bailey and Ed Logg, and it was one of the biggest commercial successes of the golden age of arcade games. The player is taking a walk through the forest when a giant centipede appears on the other side of the mushroom field. The centipede will approach the player by crawling down the screen, moving horizontally and descending to the next row each time it reaches a mushroom. The player can shoot the centipede, but hitting it in the middle will split it into two centipedes. The objective is to shoot the centipede until there’s nothing left of this giant insect. In the meanwhile, the player must also deal with other bugs and arachnids, such as spiders, fleas, and scorpions.
